Other home remedies for gum sores and other gum infection can help speed up the healing process.  One of these would be having your child gargle a solution of warm water and at least a teaspoon of non-iodized salt.  However, this should be done with your supervision, especially for kids below 5 years old.  If salt water makes your kid gag, try substituting this natural mouthwash with unsweetened cranberry juice or lemon and warm water.  Lemon and cranberry also contain antiseptic properties sans the nasty taste.  Natural aloe vera juice can also be used if cranberry juice is not available.

Prevention is still worth a pound of cure when dealing with gum sores.  You can protect your child from the devastating blows of gum sores by maintaining good dental health practices.  Regular and proper brushes followed by flossing can reduce the chances of gum sores and other infections.  However, parents need to supervise kids ages 3-5 in brushing and flossing their teeth.  They should also be taught the proper way of brushing, which includes cleaning the tongue and the insides of the cheeks.  Also, it is best to choose a toothbrush designed for toddlers and young kids.  These toothbrushes often come with soft bristles which will not hurt the delicate gums of your children.
